Emerging a deep blue/purple with a faint rose bar before fading to a lighter shade of blue, ‘Olympia’ is a colourful and compact option for smaller gardens with some shade. Rarely exceeding 1.5m in height, the single or semi-double petalled blooms overlap, each surrounding a boss of creamy-yellow anthers. This easy going Clematis produces flowering buds from leaf axils and the end of stems from late spring to early autumn. - Garden care: Clematis prefer a moist, well-drained, humus rich soil with the roots of the plant kept cool and shaded by other plants or a layer of pebbles at the base. In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser and a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
