A striking Italian heirloom variety with excellent flavour and tender, deep purple pods around 15cm long. Cropping from 60 days, 'Trionfo Violetto' or purple triumph is a flat, stringless, climbing French bean, tolerant of colder weather.

  • Growing instructions: Sowing bean seeds indoors produces quicker/more reliable germination rates. From late April/early May sow a single bean seed, 4cm deep, in a 9cm pot filled with multi-purpose compost. Plant out after about three weeks. Harden off seedlings in a cold frame/cool porch for a few days to acclimatise prior to planting. Alternatively, sow outside from April to July, 2-5cm deep, 8cm apart and in rows 30cm apart. Thin plants to 15-20cm apart. Incorporate well-rotted organic matter when planting and feed once in flower with a high-potash fertiliser to extend cropping.

  • Sow: April to July

  • Harvest: July to October
  • Humans/Pets: Raw pods/beans harmful if eaten
