    The rounded (button-like) pinnae, which give this low-growing, evergreen fern its common name, form along the length of the splaying, pink-flushed stems, creating a lacey effect. It makes a handsome ground-cover in a partially shaded position, and it can also be used to add textural interest to pots or windowboxes.

  • Garden care: Incorporate lots of well-rotted leaf mould or garden compost into the planting hole. Provide winter protection. Cut back decayed fronds in winter to allow new growth to emerge.
