About Longstock

Longstock Park Nursery is part of the Leckford Estate, which is owned and managed by Waitrose. The Leckford Estate was bought by our founder in 1928 and covers 4,000 acres of picturesque Hampshire countryside. Adjoining the nursery is the UK's first supermarket owned farm shop, offering locally and regionally produced food, and a 70 acre arboretum which leads to our world famous water garden.

The nursery is a must to visit for any garden lover throughout the year. It is set in and around a brick and flint walled garden, and is home to National Collections of Buddleja and Clematis Viticella. Discover more about the nursery and what to explore during your visit.

Naturalised bulbs in bloom

A selection of our plants can be seen growing in and around the nursery. In late winter, early spring, there is a marvellous display of snowdrops, bluebells and daffodils covering the long driveway. It makes for a lovely stroll and is great for keen photographers.

Water garden

The water garden is rated one of the finest gardens of its type in Europe, and is a spectacle to see. It will be open on behalf of local charities on the first and third Sunday of the month from April to September, when you can enjoy over eighty types of water lily in bloom and numerous irises and ferns.

Striking herbaceous border

One of the key features of the Longstock nursery is the historic 80 metre herbaceous border, set within the walled garden. Throughout late spring and autumn the border creates a fabulous display of colour, texture, and form. Perfect for inspiration, you can easily recreate a little section in your own garden.

Beautiful Buddleja

Longstock’s nursery propagator, Peter Moore, has been an expert in the field for more than 53 years. Now officially retired from the role, Peter can still often be found at the nursery tending the National Collection of Buddleja that's held there. Plan your visit in August to see many of the 90 or so varieties at their best.

Climbing Clematis archway

The collection of Clematis Viticella can be found climbing the beautiful archway that stretches alongside the herbaceous border. In full colour and bloom in summer and early autumn, it’s the best time to come and visit. You can easily recreate an archway at home with our wide selection of Clematis plants.
