Grown for their showy flowers, which come in a wide range of colours, these tender perennials make superb houseplants. They will typically flower from mid-spring to mid-autumn (although there are a couple that will flower even longer), and they tend to bloom more prolifically when they are slightly pot-bound. Mainly originating from woodland, rocky slopes and grassland in southern Africa, they require a frost-free position with filtered sun.

Each of these five Streptocarpus have been awarded the AGM by the Royal Horticultural Society.

We’re proud to support our British growers, and having been raised by one of our trusted UK nurseries, this indoor plant has a low carbon footprint, which makes it perfect for an eco-friendly collection or gift.

In this collection you will receive one plug plant of each of the following varieties:

  • Streptocarpus 'Bethan': This beautiful cape primrose has both a lovely, neat habit and a very free-flowering nature. The flowers themselves are a soft purplish blue, with the lower lobes being veined with deeper purple. Grows to 30cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Charlotte': The lower, pale lilac petals of this compact and free-flowering variety are a suffused with a shot of butter-yellow. Grows to 30cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Crystal Ice': Often flowering non-stop throughout the year, this is an incredibly pretty and very hard-working house plant. It's capable of producing up to 13 bicoloured blooms on each stem, so it really puts on a great show. Grows to 28cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Katie': Each of the flaring flowers of this robust cultivar are pencilled with a rich, deep purple, but the three lower lobes are also suffused with purple, so they create a distinctive two-tone effect. Grows to 30cm.

  • Streptocarpus 'Polka Dot Purple': A very free-flowering variety that often produces its bicoloured blooms non-stop from March to November. It's relatively easy to grow and comes highly recommended. Height: 30cm.

  • Home care:
Throughout the growing season, keep them quite well watered, but as they are sensitive to overwatering, allow the compost to get a little dry in between; during this time they should also be fed with a high potash fertiliser. Remove spent flowers as they fade and trim back any old leaves that are past their best. Overwinter on a south or west-facing windowsill and water less often. Repot each spring into a slightly larger, shallow pot filled with fibre-based compost. They can also be used as summer bedding - grow in fertile, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade.
