Originating from Afghanistan and the north-western regions of the Himalayas, this sun-loving foxtail lily looks spectacular in late spring and early summer, when its upright flowerspikes, each bearing hundreds of small, white flowers, are jettisoned from the basal rosette of foliage. Offering height, colour and structure, it's looks great in herbaceous borders or more naturalised settings.

  • Garden care: Plant shallowly in a sunny spot, ideally where the crown can get as much sun as possible. Large or congested clumps can be carefully lifted and divided in early autumn, replanting the strongest crowns on a bed of sharp grit, spreading out their roots and covering with a 5cm deep layer of soil. In frost-prone areas cover with a dry mulch.
  • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
