An evergreen, sun-loving, woody-based herb with aromatic, narrowly linear, silvery leaves. Helichrysum angustifolium is drought tolerant, and used in a wide range of culinary endeavours. Deer and rabbit resistant, the foliage gives rise to dome-shaped flowerheads of tiny bright yellow florets, later opening out to release fluffy white seeds. Flourishing on dry impoverished soils in full sun, it is an all round tough plant suitable for difficult areas such as slopes as well as the herb garden.

  • Garden care: Ensure the ground conditions are free draining to prevent wet or waterlogged conditions during the colder months and protect from cold, drying winds. Curry plants growing in frost-prone areas should be protected with a thick mulch of straw or well-rotted garden compost. Trim lightly after flowering for shape and reduce longer stems in spring, back to older wood, to prevent the plant from becoming straggly.
