A cross between the English and Portuguese lavenders, this form tends to flower slightly later than many others, but its long, slender flowerspikes and grey-green leaves smell divine, so they are often used for making pot-pourri. Forming a generous-sized bush, it looks sublime when used to line the edges of a wide pathway.

  • Garden care: After the flowers have faded, give the plants a trim, taking care not to cut into the older wood. In colder regions, where the plants may suffer from frost or wind damage, they should have a light trim in autumn, and then another trim in early spring.
