A classic cottage garden annual that is as splendid in seed as it is in flower, making it a real floral arranger’s dream. White, single, horizontally-held flowers with deep purple stamens and stigma rise tall above finely divided foliage. As the blooms fade, pale green seed pods dry and develop, maturing to a dark purple. Lovely at all stages of flowering and seeding, try these jumbo ‘African Bride' seedlings in a sunny spot for fabulous filler foliage for the cut flower vase.

Our jumbo seedlings are grown individually in cell trays, and each plant measures about 7 - 10cm tall (from the base of the root to the top of the plant). Delivered in plastic-free packaging, they are ideal for keen gardeners who have a greenhouse, where the plants can be grown on until they are ready for planting outside after all risk of frost has passed.

Please note: As we grow these especially for you, we do request that full payment is made when you place your order. See above for despatch dates for this particular plant. To ensure that your plants arrive in the best possible condition each pack will be despatched individually.

  • Garden care:
Grow on under glass and plant out once all risk of frost has passed. Pinch out the growing tips to encourage bushier growth, and feed at regular intervals with a high-potash fertiliser throughout summer. Deadheading regularly will help prolong the flowering period into autumn. Support the plants with twiggy branches in exposed gardens.

  • Sowing instructions:
Best sown in situ, 5mm deep. Prepare the seedbed by incorporating some composted organic matter, remove any stones and rake to a fine tilth. Sow in autumn if you want early flowers the following summer, or in mid spring for a later crop. Thin them out when they are large enough to handle allowing 30cm between each.

  • Sow: September to October or March to May
