With its stunning ruby-red, glossy young foliage, this versatile award-winning, evergreen shrub is deservedly popular and is well suited to hedging and screening applications. Producing its strongest colour in full sun, it’s also tolerant of partial shade. The large, rounded heads of ivory flowers appear in mid and late spring, sometimes followed by spherical red fruit.

- Garden care: Careful location of these plants is recommended, young shoots are prone to wind scorch and late frosts if grown in an exposed site. In colder regions, provide extra shelter and warmth by growing photinia as wall shrubs. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in early spring. Prune/trim in spring or summer to promote dense growth and maintain a good overall shape (check for nests prior to cutting and delay if present).
- Humans/Pets: Fruit are ornamental - not to be eaten
