An incredibly versatile, award-winning, evergreen shrub. ‘Rotundifolia’ works wonderfully well when grouped together for hedging or screening purposes. Newly formed leaves are bright green, oblong and glossy, darkening with age. Curious, scented white, candle-like flowering spires appear in April and are followed by cherry-like red fruits, ripening to black.
- Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Not suitable as a boundary hedge if livestock grazes in neighbouring areas. Prune in either spring or summer (check for nesting birds prior to cutting and and delay cut if present). Mature plants can tolerate hard pruning in spring. For best results, although time-consuming, pruning with secateurs is preferable to avoid leaf damage.
- Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
