This perennial dies back to below ground level each year in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again in spring.

- Soil: fertile, well-drained soil (or equal parts of a loam-based potting compost such as John Innes No1 and grit for container-grown specimens)
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: April to May

Silky, much-divided foliage is topped with golden-centred purple flowers from mid-to-late spring and afterwards attractive silvery seedheads develop on the upright stems creating further interest. Tolerant of drought once established.
- Garden care: Plant very firmly in well-drained soil and take care when carrying out routine border maintenance since Pasque flowers resent having their roots disturbed.
