Made in partnership with the National Trust, this birch log nester is a really well put together box, sturdy, attractive and fits seamlessly into the garden. The 32mm hole is most suitable for smaller garden species, including blue tits, house and tree sparrows, nuthatches and great tits.

The chunky walls and overhanging green-painted roof provide safe shelter from predators and make for a warm and cosy nesting space. A great way to encourage birds into your garden and help arrest the decline of our native species.

Hanging the box:

A wooden back plate with pre-drilled holes makes it nice and easy to hang. If you're choosing a tree, use an aluminium nail so as not to damage the tree. Put it up 2-4 metres high, ideally facing north to north east and in a sheltered spot out of strong sun and wind. If you can see it from indoors, all the better. Keep it hygienic by cleaning out the nester annually when you are sure birds have vacated.
