This simple, straight-sided terracotta bowl is ideal for incorporating soft herbs into the garden without giving them the freedom to run wild. The relatively generous planting area means you can plant up a couple of your favourites or grow a good amount of a single herb - mint, basil, parsley, coriander, chives, dill, etc.

The shape also works well for creating a display of small cacti or succulents, topped off with a dressing of washed gravel. Whatever you choose, the planted bowl works really well as a centrepiece for a large garden table, or placing on a garden wall where foliage can trail over the sides.

The bowls are hand thrown in Turkey by Argun and his son, 3rd and 4th generation potters from the Izmir region on the Aegean coast. Made using local clay, they will age to a wonderful patina as the salts slowly leach to the surface.

Though fired to 1080°C to make them as frost resistant as possible, we would always suggest moving empty or full bowls into a sheltered spot in the colder months.

To keep your bowl in tip-top condition please read our ‘Assembly and care instructions' PDF for more detailed advice.

Any white specks in the terracotta are lime granules, which occur naturally in raw Turkish clay. Sometimes when a pot is fired, the clay around them can split out a little, but this won't compromise the strength of the finished product. The lime helps to bind the clay and ultimately makes for a stronger pot.

Please note: as these bowls are thrown by hand, they will vary slightly in height and diameter from batch to batch, so the measurements below are approximate. Supplied with a drainage hole.
