Not only will this pretty pond plant help keep your pond water well oxygenated, but it also produces feathery foliage that floats on the waters surface. The icing on the cake however, are the spring flowers, which are normally soft pinkish lilac, but can occasionally be white. These appear in spring on upright stems that rise above the ponds water level. It's a gem of a plant that is suitable for a well-settled small to medium sized, still-water pond.

  • Garden care:
Water violet should be planted with its crown just below the water surface, typically in shallow water around 5-15cm (2-6in) deep. It prefers a muddy or sandy substrate, and keeping the water shallow allows its delicate feathery feathery leaves to reach the light while preventing the plant from becoming waterlogged. This depth also helps it establish well without being disturbed by strong currents or fluctuations in water level.

These plants are potted up (using a suitable aquatic compost) into 1-litre aquatic pots. These pots are made of a fine mesh, which allows water to circulate through the compost, providing the plants with both oxygen and nutrients.
