Dainty, pink-tinted white flowers in June and small, three-lobed, mid-green leaves, golden-yellow when young. This compact, thicket-forming, deciduous shrub is ideal for illuminating a shrub border in sun or partial shade. Best grown in moist but well-drained acid soil, Physocarpus opulifolius 'Dart's Gold' tolerates most conditions except for shallow chalk.
Plant ninebark in well-drained soil and a sunny or lightly shaded spot, keeping it well watered while it settles in. Once it’s established, remove up to a quarter of the oldest stems at ground level after flowering to keep the shape fresh and encourage new growth.
Finish by spreading a 5-7cm (2-3in) layer of well-rotted compost around the base to boost soil health and help lock in moisture.
