These plants will give you lashings of flowers over a long period of time, so are great if you want your plants to really earn their keep in the garden.

In this collection you will receive one of each of the following plants. They are all supplied in 9cm nursery pots.

    • Betonica officinalis 'Hummelo': This is a clump-forming perennial, which is mainly grown for the rose-lavender flowers which appear in summer. These flowers are held on upright spikes above the rosettes of dark green leaves and act as a magnet for bees. It provides great groundcover which is ideal for filling gaps at the front of the border. Grows to 50cm.

    • Geranium 'Light Dilys': Easy and undemanding, this compact cranesbill will nevertheless reward you with non-stop flowers from late spring to mid-autumn. It makes superb groundcover at the front of the border where it will mingle easily with its neighbours, without becoming too bossy. The foliage is attractive too. Grows to 40cm.

    • Nepeta × faassenii: A dwarf catmint with slender spikes of lavender-blue summer flowers and aromatic, sage-green leaves. This clump-forming perennial will form open drifts of hazy blue flowers for weeks over the summer months, and makes a lovely informal edging plant for paths and borders. When it's trodden underfoot the cascading foliage releases an intoxicating aroma. Fresh or dried, the leaves make a refreshing and therapeutic tea which is high in Vitamin C and has traditionally been used to treat such conditions as nervousness, insomnia, hyperactivity, colds and fevers. The flowers are highly attractive to bees, and of course, the foliage to cats, who will go mad for it. To prevent cats from flattening the plant, insert several twiggy sticks into the centre. Grows to 60cm.

    • Salvia LOVE AND WISHES ('Serendip6') (PBR): The third in the 'Wish' series of salvias, this new addition has jaw-dropping magenta flowers, each held by a dark burgundy calyx. Also, if the plant is deadheaded regularly, the flowers will appear over an incredibly long period - often providing colour from June to November. It has a neat and tidy habit too, which makes it great for both borders and pots, and once well established, it will become tolerant of drought. Grows to 80cm.

  • Planting tips: Prepare the bed well by digging in lots of composted organic matter before you plant. For best results it is essential that the plants are kept well watered for the first year, particularly during warmer weather.
