The highly distinctive brick-red flowers, suffused with purple, bloom in loose clusters from mid-July to August, adding a touch of tropical flair to the garden borders, 'Harvington Imperial' can also grace pots and containers, though some frost protection is advisable during severe frosts.

  • Garden care:
Grow in humus-rich, moderately fertile soil that is moist yet well-drained. Locate in a cool, sheltered spot with partial shade. Prevent summer drought and winter waterlogging. Enhance the soil with organic matter, and introduce mycorrhizal fungi (Rootgrow) during planting. In colder regions, employ a dry winter mulch like bark for added protection.
