With large sprays of brown-centred yellow daisies 5-7cm wide opening in late summer, the willow-leaved sunflower is grown largely for its tall, feathery foliage. Equally popular as a cut flower as well as the back of a suitably large border, slugs and snails love the narrow, arching leaves, too, so you will need to protect against them.

  • Garden care: Cut back old stems after flowering and top dress each year with a generous layer of well-rotted manure. Divide clumps every 3-4 years to maintain vigour.
