A hardy, deer-resistant, evergreen perennial that showcases its beauty in the garden all year round, with flowers that fade to a dusky pink but persist, offering interest for many months. This stunning plant boasts large, pink/red flowers centred with green, that bloom in late winter and early spring against a backdrop of dark green, glossy leaves, mottled with silver. 'Winter Sunshine' has a vigorous growth habit, low maintenance requirements and ability to thrive in shade, making it ideal for woodland gardens.

  • Garden care:
Add lots of well-rotted leaf mould or organic matter to the planting hole. Cut the old leaves back down to the ground in January or February as this will show off the new emerging flowers to best effect. Apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted organic matter around the base of the plant in autumn and provide a top-dressing of general fertiliser each spring.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin irritant
