Hailing from North America, this bold mallow demands wider recognition for its exceptional features. The dramatic, palmately divided leaves, reminiscent of Ligularia and Delphinium, forms an impressive clump, expanding up to 1m (3ft) across and can reach sizes of up to 45cm (18in) long and across, gradually diminishing as they ascend the stems. From this striking foliage arise upright stems, reaching a potential height of about 2m (6ft), adorned with tight clusters of small, fragrant, tubular white flowers featuring separate male and female blooms on distinct plants. This botanical gem flourishes in a variety of environments, thriving along streams, in open woods, and at woodland edges.

  • Garden care:
Grow glade mallow in a moist, sheltered location in full sun to part shade. The plant is intolerant of dry soils. Stake flowering stems to avoid snapping or falling over.
