This Chinese evergreen is an easy-going houseplant, with highly patterned sword-shaped foliage, which will help liven up a spot away from direct sunlight. As the name suggests, this is a relatively compact plant that is quite slow growing, so it does not need repotting very often and will look best placed on a sideboard or coffee table.

Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a nursery pot). They do however make excellent potted plants, and if you wish to pot yours up, we do have a wide range of pots on our website to choose from.

  • Home care:
Aglaonema grows best in bright, indirect light but will cope well in lower light areas too. Let the top inch of soil dry out before watering, preferably with rainwater, and always use a pot with good drainage to avoid waterlogging (ensure the pot is not sitting in water within a decorative cover).

Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertiliser during spring and summer. Wipe the leaves occasionally to remove dust and keep them looking their best. This plant prefers warm conditions, so keep it above 16°C (61°F) and away from cold draughts.

In winter, reduce watering and allow the plant to rest. Increase humidity by misting the leaves regularly, especially in heated homes. Repot every few years in spring using a free-draining compost.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten; skin/eye irritant
