The RHS award-winning, free and long flowering Anemone 'Wild Swan' has pure white petals with a distinct grey-blue streak along the reverse, so when in bud, or when the blooms nod and half close (in the mornings and evenings) the flowers look bluish, but when they are fully open they are a dazzling pure white.
Ideal for the woodland garden or partially shaded bed, its extended flowering period, intermittently between May and November, and pretty colouring makes this former Chelsea Flower Show plant of the year for 2011 deservedly popular.
Best in a humus rich soil and part shade and needs to be kept moist in dry spells.

When planting, incorporate plenty of well-rotted compost to improve fertility, and add grit or sand if the soil is heavy to improve drainage and soil structure.
Space plants 30-45cm (12-18in) apart and water thoroughly after planting. This hybrid cultivar thrives in partial shade and benefits from consistent moisture, so apply a layer of organic mulch to help retain soil moisture and regulate temperature.
Cut back flower stalks after blooming and remove any dead leaves in early spring. Apply a 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted garden compost or manure around the base of the plant in spring to support healthy growth.
While this anemone dislikes frequent disturbance, dividing congested clumps every 4-5 years in early spring will help maintain vigour. Although it establishes quickly, its spread is moderate, so occasional division can help manage its growth.
