Harvested in autumn, chokeberries are supreme superfoods, surpassing blueberries on the high antioxidants scale! ‘Viking’ is a little rough around-the-edges when eaten raw, with a tart flavour. When cooked, they’re delicious and can make great compôtes, summer puddings and jams. This upright, deciduous shrub has matt green leaves that mature to plum as the season sets sail.
Plant with a scoop of well-conditioned organic matter and a sprinkling of mycorrhizal fungi in the planting hole. Once established, each year in February or March remove one in three of the older stems of established specimens.
