Bergenias are tough, reliable and undemanding evergreen groundcovers that will grow just about anywhere - and once established, are drought-tolerant. The chunky leaves form a slowly spreading cluster (they look great planted en-masse), from which sprays of bell-shaped flowers emerge in early spring. 'Angel Kiss' is a compact form with white flowers that turn pinker as they mature, while their lustrous green foliage takes on a reddish flush during the cold winter weather.
Plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot with a scoop of organic matter such as well-rotted or bagged compost. Water in well, and keep the area moist until the plant is well established. After flowering remove faded flowerheads, and snip off any tatty or old leaves as and when necessary. Mulch annually to promote growth, and lift and divide large clumps in early spring.
