Sought-after for its brilliant white bark, this vigorous, deciduous tree has yellowy brown catkins in spring, and ovate dark green leaves that turn butter yellow in autumn. The warm chestnut brown stem colour of the west Himalayan birch gradually turns white with age - usually when the tree is around 8 years old. Delivered as a single-stemmed plant, in time it will grow into a spectacular tree that will create an elegant garden specimen. It's equally stunning when three or more are planted as a group to create a multi-stemmed effect, particularly when underplanted with a mix of early flowering spring bulbs.

  • Garden care:
Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in late autumn or winter. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake well.
