A callistemon said to be hardier than many other cultivars, 'Amarette' offers year-round interest in sheltered or southerly parts of the UK with its slender, aromatic foliage. This evergreen shrub is mainly sought after for its bottlebrush-like flowerheads, which appear over a long period in spring and summer. A compact plant, it could be grown at the base of a sunny sheltered wall in milder regions, or kept in a larger pot and moved to a sheltered position during the colder months.
Tip prune young plants to encourage bushy growth. Established plants should be pruned in stages over two or three summers, cutting back older wood to younger, outward-facing shoots immediately after flowering. Protect plants from severe cold and waterlogged conditions.
