'Glauca' is an impressive and blue variety of evergreen conifer that develops into a large, spreading tree. The short needles are arranged in small clusters and are silvery-white when young, maturing to blue-green. The purple-brown, upright cones up to 10cm long, mature over a long period and are a permanent feature on mature trees. A true giant of a plant in all senses of the word, this robust plant is native to the Atlas mountains of Algeria and Morocco, and ideally needs space where it can properly develop its magnificent, spreading form.

  • Garden care: Pruning is not usually necessary, however any shoots that ruin the symmetry of the plant can be removed in autumn. Apply a generous layer of mulch around the base of the plant (avoiding the immediate crown) in late winter.
