Igniting the autumn garden with its fiery display, this regal heritage chrysanthemum commands attention with its vibrant semi-double blooms in brilliant red, each centred with a glowing yellow eye.
Chrysanthemum 'Duchess of Edinburgh' rises majestically on strong stems, its deeply divided, aromatic foliage creating a striking contrast with dark green upper surfaces and silvery-grey undersides. This robust deciduous perennial spreads, making a bold statement in mixed borders where its late-season performance coincides perfectly with the changing colours of deciduous trees and shrubs.
Particularly valued for its exceptional vase life and wildlife-friendly credentials, this cultivar excels both in garden displays and cut flower arrangements. Hardy across most of the UK, though in colder regions its woody base benefits from winter protection through mulching or lifting, this aristocratic variety brings welcome warmth to containers and borders, flowering generously throughout the autumn as the temperatures begin to fall.

Insert twiggy prunings early in the season to provide invisible and effective support. Avoid overly wet or waterlogged conditions in winter and apply a thick 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch around the base of the plant in Spring, taking care not to cover the crown.
For best blooms, feed every two weeks during the growing season with a high-potash fertiliser. Cut back old stems to ground level in late winter new growth emerges. These plants may need winter protection in colder regions - a dry mulch of straw or fleece will protect the crown. Remove spent blooms regularly to extend the flowering period well into autumn.
