Chrysanthemum 'Mei-Kyo' is a reliable and elegant perennial, forming a tidy mound adorned with masses of small, double, pom-pom-shaped flowers. These delicate blooms, ranging from light to dark pink, create a stunning display in late autumn.

The name 'Mei-Kyo', meaning 'Glory of Kyoto', is a testament to the plant's beauty and historical significance. This hardy chrysanthemum thrives in well-drained soil and is a welcome addition to pots and borders, providing a burst of colour when other plants have faded.

  • Garden care:
Insert twiggy prunings early in the season to provide invisible and effective support. Avoid overly wet or waterlogged conditions in winter and apply a thick 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch around the base of the plant in Spring, taking care not to cover the crown.

For best blooms, feed every two weeks during the growing season with a high-potash fertiliser. Cut back old stems to ground level in late winter new growth emerges. These plants may need winter protection in colder regions - a dry mulch of straw or fleece will protect the crown. Remove spent blooms regularly to extend the flowering period well into autumn.
