A deciduous, non-twining, herbaceous perennial. This highly versatile late-season Clematis looks superb scrambling through early spring flowering shrubs, extending the season of interest. Alternatively, Durand's clematis can be used to add height to the mixed border if trained on a framework of metal or natural materials such as hazel or birch. Intense, deep indigo-blue star-shaped flowers with a central tuft of white and golden yellow stamens emerge from early to late summer.

  • Garden care: When planting Durand's clematis incorporate well-rotted compost and mycorrhizal fungi into the planting hole. Cut back the stems to the base of the plant each winter and apply a mulch of organic matter around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown.
  • Humans: Skin irritant; Pets: Harmful if eaten
