This compact clematis produces rich, velvety purple flowers up to 15cm (6in) across, with soft, pale accents towards the petal edges, adding depth to its striking appearance.
Blooming generously from midsummer, it often rewards gardeners with a second flush in September for extended interest. Ideal for growing in large containers with supports like obelisks, or trained against walls and trellises, this climber is perfect for smaller gardens or patios.
Clematis ‘Baroness Fookes’ thrives in sunny to partially shaded spots with well-drained soil, making it a reliable and elegant choice for vibrant summer displays.
Please note that the pot in the photograph is not supplied with the plant (which is sent out in a simple nursery alternative), but we have a wide and wonderful range on our website to choose from.

Choose a spot with well-drained, fertile soil and ensure the location receives plenty of sunlight—at least 6 hours a day—for optimal flowering.
However, they prefer their roots to be cool and shaded, so plant low-growing plants or add a layer of mulch of well-rotted compost around the base, avoiding the immediate crown.
In early spring cut back the previous year's stems to a pair of strong buds about 15-20cm (6-8in) above ground-level and apply a slow-release balanced fertiliser.
