‘Blue Pirouette’ is a versatile, semi-herbaceous perennial clematis with elliptical green leaves and lightly scented violet-blue flowers, about 10cm (4in) wide, featuring twisted sepals and creamy-white anthers, blooming from early to late summer. Its non-clinging stems allow it to gracefully scramble in borders or through shrubs, trees, and roses, making it excellent for impromptu cut flowers.

  • Garden care:
Clematis are happiest when their roots are kept cool and moist, so try to plant them where the base of the plants will be lightly shaded by other, lower-growing species. Cut back the stems to the base of the plant each winter and apply a mulch of well-rotted garden compost around the plant, avoiding the immediate crown. Use twiggy prunings, ring stakes or bamboo canes to provide support.
  • To avoid dry conditions, and to ensure good soil contact around the rootball, we advise planting climbers at least 30cm (12in), and preferably 45-60cm (18-24in) away from the base of a wall or fence. An even larger distance should be maintained when planting climbers beside an existing tree or shrub.
