This rounded, compact, elegant small tree has a graceful, well-rounded form with dense branches adorned with thorns and glossy, leathery, oval-shaped leaves. During mid-summer, clusters of white flowers emerge, giving way to vibrant orange-red haws that persist throughout the winter season.

Crataegus × lavalleei 'Carrierei' is undemanding in its requirements, thriving in various environments including coastal, exposed, polluted, and damp locations. Furthermore, it is popular with wildlife. Colourful autumn hues and appealing exfoliating bark add additional interest to a great all-rounder.

  • Garden care:
When planting, add some soil conditioner (well-rotted compost) to the planting hole and some mycorrhizal fungi to aid root establishment.

Ensure the top of the plant's compost is flush with the level of the surrounding soil and the collar of the tree is above ground level.

Support taller specimens either with a bamboo cane and or stake during establishment. Water generously around the base of the plant.
