'Pickwick' has stunning, delicate purple veining running along the length of its petals which surround and cosset beautiful golden stamens cocooned within the centre of the flower. The petals have a light fringe to the edges, giving them a slightly ruffled effect.

These larger, later-flowering Dutch crocus bulbs fare better against squirrel-grazing than other smaller, less robust species. Always worth including in the garden, these delightful bulbous perennials signal that spring is just around the corner.

Plant these in a sunny spot where they will quickly form large clumps.

  • Garden care:
Plant bulbs in tight clusters to form naturalistic drifts 10cm deep where they can be left undisturbed for several years. Keep a lookout for damage by mice or squirrels. This can sometimes be avoided by laying a piece of chicken wire over the bulbs before you cover them with soil. If you are growing these in grass, avoid mowing it until the leaves have completely died back.
    • Humans/Pets: Ornamental bulbs - not to be eaten
