One of the best plants for cold, exposed or coastal gardens, this pretty broom will take it all in its stride and still put on a great show. It has slender stems, which become more arching as they grow. These are clothed with small green leaves, but it is for the masses of pink, pea-like flowers that appear in spring that this plant is most highly prized.

  • Garden care: Pinch out the shoots of young plants to encourage the development of a bushy habit. It needs to be pruned each year after flowering to ensure a bumper crop of flowers in the following year. Reduce the flowered stems to young sideshoots or low buds, taking care not to cut into the old wood.

  • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
