Perfect for naturalising in reliably moist but well drained borders, meadows and edge of woodland, these native hardy orchids are easy and undemanding bulbous perennials that produce a slender spire of pinkish purple flowers in late spring and early summer. The foliage is attractive too and Dactylorhiza majalis sometimes has a smattering of burgundy spots.

  • Garden care:
Low maintenance, grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich, leafy soil in partial shade. Divide over-large clumps in early spring.
