Dryopteris wallichiana Jurassic Gold ('Hollasic') (PBR)
alpine wood fern
- available to order from spring 2021
- 9cm pot
This fern is deciduous so all its fronds will die back in autumn, then fresh new growth appears again each spring.
- Position: partial shade
- Soil: moist, humus-rich soil
- Rate of growth: average
- Hardiness: fully hardy
When they first emerge in spring, the fronds of this unusual new variety are an eye-catching golden orange, but as they mature and become more spreading, their colour changes to light green. Discovered by Bob Hollister at Country Garden Plants near the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, this award-winning fern will liven up a shady border - and can also be potted for the patio.
- Garden care: Incorporate lots of well rotted leaf mould, composted pine needles of garden compost into the planting hole. Cut back dead fronds in winter
