The tall, purple-flushed, leafy stems of 'Purple Bush' rarely need supporting, even when topped with their large, dome-shaped clusters of small pinkish-mauve flowers, which appear from late summer to mid autumn.
Eutrochium maculatum is an impressive beauty, invaluable for adding height and colour at the back of the border.

Plant in full sun or partial shade in deep, humus-rich soil that stays consistently moist. Space plants 75-90cm (30-36in) apart as they form tall, spreading clumps. Water regularly during dry spells and mulch in spring with compost or leaf mould to conserve moisture.
Cut back old stems to the base in late winter or early spring before new growth emerges, and divide clumps every 3-4 years in spring to maintain vigour and prevent overcrowding. Taller plants may need staking in exposed sites.
