Large, lustrous, softly spiny, bluish-green leaves and glossy, red, autumn berries. This vigorous, spreading, evergreen holly makes an excellent specimen or hedging plant for a sunny or partially shady inland site. Clipping hedging plants regularly in late summer will reveal dark purplish-green stems, which add to the ornamental effect. - Garden care: Plants grown as free-standing specimens require minimal pruning - remove diseased or misplaced branches in spring. Trim plants grown as formal hedges in late summer. After pruning apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in) mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant
