Flourishing as a robust, herbaceous perennial, 'Shirley Anne' begins with verdant mounds of foliage before launching modestly short (for a lupin!) spires adorned by clusters of small purple and lilac flowers, kissed by touches of white. Blooming from June through early summer, this cultivar is perfect for cottage-style borders, where it prefers a non-chalky soil, or containers in a sunny spot. Tailored for smaller gardens and pots, it attracts butterflies and bees, infusing your garden with bustling activity and visual allure.

  • Garden care:
Stake with bamboo canes or other natural supports in spring before the flowers appear and deadhead the faded blooms to encourage a second flush of flowers. Protect young plants from slug and snail damage, and against hard frosts by covering the crown of the plant with organic mulch. If growing in pots, ensure plants are sufficiently irrigated during dry spells.
    • Pets: TOXIC if eaten; Humans: Harmful if eaten
