  • Soil: any moist, well-drained soil
  • Rate of growth: slow
  • Flowering period: August to September

This is a particularly hardy variety which has a more upright habit than most. The handsome leaves are narrow and light green, but without as many reddish brown hairs underneath. Large, cup-shaped, cream white blooms are produced from late summer to early autumn, and it will produce flowers when young. Like all other bull bays, it can tolerate most soils but needs protection from the wind.

  • Garden care: Requires minimal pruning. Remove any broken, diseased or crossing branches in spring. The best time to plant is in April, adding plenty of well-rotted compost to the planting hole, in a sheltered spot. Mulch in spring with manure and leaf mould, especially on dry soils.
  • CAUTION toxic if eaten/skin & eye irritant
