Nepenthes x ventrata is an easy-to-grow carnivorous plant, perfect for indoor environments like greenhouses, conservatories, or humid bathrooms. Thriving at room temperature in nutrient-poor compost, it does best when humidity is maintained and rainwater is used for watering, keeping the compost consistently moist but not waterlogged. This species needs bright, indirect light and can even be placed outdoors in semi-shade during summer, as temperatures remain above 14°C (57°F). Its elongated, narrow pitchers, ranging in colour from red to green, naturally catch insects for nourishment, making feeding unnecessary, though occasional hand-feeding is possible if you happen across unwanted flies.

Please note that the plant comes in a 12cm nursery pot as standard, unless a decorative pot cover is included as an option.

  • Home care:
Nepenthes thrive in warm, humid, and partly shady environments, daytime temperatures should be maintained around 18-27°C, with a minimum of 7°C at night, making them ideal for year-round indoor cultivation. They prefer being watered with rainwater, and many species benefit from sitting in a saucer filled with 2.5-5cm (1-2in) of water during the growing season. In winter, it's best to keep the compost damp rather than wet. Never add water into the pitchers as this can cause them to shrivel and die. Pot on in spring using a specialist carnivorous compost.
