Dense, spherical flowerheads packed with pure white blooms appear on sturdy stems in early spring, standing above a neat rosette of toothed green leaves. This hardy perennial thrives in reliably moist soil and partial shade, making it an excellent choice for pond edges, bog gardens, or damp borders.
Primula denticulata var. alba looks best when planted in drifts, where its delicate flowers create a striking contrast against darker foliage. It pairs well with shade-loving plants like Leucojum, Anemone and Brunnera.
Ideal for woodland gardens, it will also self-seed in the right conditions, gradually forming naturalistic clumps. Long-lived and easy to grow, it performs best in humus-rich, slightly acidic soil.

Plant in humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil in partial shade. Position so that the crown sits just below soil level and space plants 15-30cm (6-12in) apart. Water well after planting and ensure soil remains consistently damp, especially in dry periods.
Mulch annually with well-rotted compost or leaf mould to retain moisture and improve soil structure. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage prolonged blooming, but allow some to set seed for naturalising. In colder regions, protect young plants from harsh frosts with a light mulch of straw or leaf litter.
Divide congested clumps every few years in early autumn or after flowering to maintain vigour and prevent overcrowding.
