A shorter, more manoeuvrable version of our popular bulb augers, we’ve designed these ones especially for use when squatting or kneeling.
Perfect for working in borders and beds, including raised beds, they’ll help you get lots of planting done quickly - whether it’s spring bulbs, vegetable seedlings, 9cm pot plants or plug plants.
Slot them into your cordless drill, squat or kneel comfortably and once you’ve perfected your technique, you’ll find yourself racing through the job in no time.
The best way to use them is to dig holes in stages, lifting the auger out once or twice so the loosened soil is deposited next to the hole. Once the hole is deep enough, pop in your plant or bulb (pointy side up), and refill with the loose soil.
They’re handy for turning and aerating soil too, so you could also use them to get air into the compost heap without breaking a sweat!
The techie bit:
Made from powder-coated steel, the augers are designed for use with a cordless drill with a voltage between 18 and 24 volts (not included). They have an 8.9mm 'hex' fitting to stop them slipping around in the drill chuck.
To be on the safe side and avoid twisting your wrist (if you hit a rock or thick root), the torque settings on the chuck of the drill should be set to medium.
Available in three sizes to suit different plants and bulbs.
Measurements:
Small bulbs, bedding plugs, aerating - Ø1 ½” x L9" (Ø4.05cm x 23cm)
Medium bulbs, plug plants, bedding - Ø2 ½” x L16 ½” (Ø6.5cm x 42cm)
Large bulbs, 9cm potted plants - Ø3” x L10" (Ø7.6cm x 25.5cm)
