Surface mulching

Spread a decent layer evenly over the surface of your soil (about 1 inch thick). Don't pile the mulch around the base of your plants or use it around freshly planted seedlings or salads as it's too rich. A 50 litre bag should cover roughly one square metre. The birds, worms and rain will gradually work it into your beds.

Digging over

To prepare beds before planting, dig in one 50 litre bag per square metre to give soil a long-lasting nutritional boost.

Boosting beds and borders

When adding new plants to a bed or planting young trees, use a 1:2 Magic Mulch to soil mix to feed and support your plants. For homemade leaf mould or compost add Magic Mulch on a 1:2 ratio to get the best balance between feeding and support for your plants.
