Vivid crimson flowers smother this compact broom in late spring and early summer, brightening any sunny garden. Cytisus × boskoopii 'Boskoop Ruby' is easy to grow, low-maintenance, and ideal for small gardens or borders.

Light pruning after flowering keeps it tidy and encourages next year’s blooms, making it perfect for beginner gardeners.

  • Garden care:
Plant Cytisus in well-drained soil in a sunny spot, ideally sheltered from strong winds. Pinch out the shoots of young plants to encourage a bushy habit. After flowering, prune annually by cutting back the spent stems to young side-shoots or low buds, avoiding old wood, to promote a strong display the following year.

Remove any dead or damaged stems at the same time, and water well in dry spells until established, though established plants become more drought-tolerant. A light mulch in spring can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
    • Humans/Pets: Harmful if eaten
