- Position: full sun
- Soil: moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soil, or loam-based compost for containers
- Rate of growth: average
- Flowering period: June to July and then usually in September
- Hardiness: frost hardy (may need winter protection)
Larger than average heads of pink flowers form in abundance at the ends of the branches of this compact evergreen shrub in early summer. Usually in early autumn there is a second, less prolific flush that will add another shot of colour to the shrub border.
The foliage is a rich glossy green, and this looks great all through the year, even when not providing a backdrop for the flowers. Escallonia laevis Pink Elle will make a fine specimen for pots, and its naturally branching habit also makes it ideal for hedging.

Escallonia thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, ideally in a sheltered spot to protect it from cold winds. It tolerates a range of soil types but performs best in slightly acidic to neutral conditions.
Water regularly during its first growing season to help it establish, then only in prolonged dry spells. Once established, it's drought tolerant and low maintenance. Prune after flowering in late summer to maintain a tidy shape and encourage bushy growth.
In colder regions, choose a more sheltered position or provide some winter protection to avoid frost damage.
