Possibly one of the most popular dragon trees, Dracaena marginata has slender, predominantly green leaves, many of which have a fine red edge running down their length. These form at the tops of the upright stems, giving the plant an attractive shaggy-headed appearance.

Water well during the active growing season in spring and summer, keeping the compost evenly moist, but reduce watering in winter to avoid soggy roots. Mist the foliage occasionally to raise humidity, especially in centrally heated rooms. Position in bright, indirect light and keep temperatures ideally between 60-75°F (16-24°C), avoiding drops below 50°F (10°C) in winter. Feed every 2-3 weeks with a balanced liquid houseplant fertiliser during the growing months to support strong foliage.
Repot as required, refreshing the compost to maintain nutrients and vigour.
