On arching branches with dark green leaves, this distinctive cultivar produces striking clusters of purple buds, which open to reveal bicoloured blooms in variable shades of pink and orange, fading to bronze as the flowers mature during mid to late summer.
With a sweet scent, the flowers of Buddleja × weyeriana 'Bicolor' are attractive to wildlife, especially butterflies.
A resilient, low maintenance shrub, it is tolerant of most situations, but grows best in well-drained soil in a sunny position.
Plant out as soon conditions allow, avoiding frozen or waterlogged soil. Incorporate well-rotted manure or garden compost and perhaps some mycorrhizal fungi into the soil when planting.
Keep well-watered during warm weather until the plant has settled in fully, and once the plant has become established, prune it hard each year in March, cutting all of the previous year's growth back to within two to four buds from the base.
